Thank you for your interest in Cooper University Hospital’s Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program! We are the current chief residents and are excited to share with you what makes Cooper such a special and stimulating place to train.
Cooper is located along the Delaware River in Camden, New Jersey, right across the river from Philadelphia. We provide care to a diverse patient population, including Camden, Philadelphia and extending to the entire South Jersey region. Our residency is supported by a level I Adult Trauma Center, a level II Pediatric Trauma Center, and the MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper University. As the region's busiest trauma center and only academic hospital, residents are provided with a large volume of high level and complex cases. We are also a primary stroke center, a national referral center for musculoskeletal oncology, and a regional referral center for escalation of care and trauma.
Our program has five residents per year. We have dedicated fellowship trained attendings who are motivated to teach and provide residents with robust training in all subspecialties of radiology. The program provides a strong procedural foundation, and you will have the opportunity to perform diagnostic and therapeutic interventions on your IR, women’s imaging, musculoskeletal, neuro IR, and pediatric rotations.
As a level II pediatric trauma center, residents obtain a strong foundation in pediatric imaging at Cooper and further supplement their experience with a rotation at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP).
The strength of our program lies in our camaraderie. Residents play an active role in shaping the program, and alumni frequently return as faculty or guest lecturers. Residents form long-lasting friendships and regularly spend time together outside of work. Check out our photos and videos on the website to get a glimpse into the life of a Cooper radiology resident!
Residents and faculty are active in research and regularly attend national and international meetings such as RSNA, ARRS, AUR, SIR, and CIRSE among others. There are ample opportunities for research during residency with many enthusiastic faculty and medical students from our affiliated medical school, Cooper Medical School of Rowan University. Some of our residents play an active role in local and national radiology societies.
Many of us live in Philadelphia which is home to museums, professional sports teams, active nightlife, and some of the best restaurants in the country. The PATCO subway system allows for a 10-15 minute commute to the hospital from Philadelphia and New Jersey. Some residents live in Camden's waterfront apartments or in the neighboring suburbs.
Congratulations on choosing one of the most challenging and rewarding subspecialties in medicine! We invite you to apply to our residency program and look forward to meeting you when you interview. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you would like to learn more about our program. Good luck to each of you!
Sincerely,
Kishan Patel, DO and Edwin Pagan, MD
