How to Apply

The Department of Anesthesiology offers four categorical positions. The Clinical base year is arranged to give broad training in various specialties. Most residents are expected to have spent at least one month during their intern year program doing an elective in Anesthesiology and two months in Critical Care Medicine.

Also offered is one advanced track position where the applicant would need to secure an ACGME approved PGY-1 year position at another site. A requirement of two months of critical care is required.

All resident are expected to have passed the USMLE Step 3 examination by the end of the CA1 year.

The Anesthesiology Residency at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University and Cooper University Hospital Program participates in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS), and all information is processed through this system without exception. Information regarding the ERAS application process and timeline is available on the website below. All positions will be offered through NRMP; participation with National Residency Matching Program required.

Applicants should strive to complete the majority of their ERAS application in time for the initial September 15th download date; completed applications must be received no later than November 1. ERAS applications must contain the following information in order for your application to be considered:

  • Common application form
  • USMLE score(s) (all applicants must submit a USMLE Step 1 score)
  • Dean's Letter from medical school (to be added later once available)
  • Three (3) current letters of recommendation
  • Personal statement
  • Curriculum Vitae (as generated through ERAS)
  • Medical School transcripts
  • ECFMG certificate if graduated from a foreign school
  • Photo
