Is there a Night Float System?
We do not have our fellows rotate through a "Night Float" rotation. We follow a call scheduled that is more reflective of real work Nephrology Practice where fellows are on night call once a week when not on service, and cover night call on the weekends that they work in the hospital.
How many hospitals do fellows rotate through?
There is one main hospital a Cooper University Hospital located in Camden, NJ. The vast majority of in-patient rotations will be completed at this location. 2 months of education will be completed at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, located in Philadelphia just across the Delaware river.
Where is the outpatient continuity clinic?
The continuity clinic is located across the street from the main hospital at 3 Cooper Plaza, Camden, NJ
Do fellows work holidays?
Cooper University Hospital recognizes 5 major Holidays, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years. Outpatient offices and dialysis units will be closed on these days. Fellows will not be expected to cover all holidays on service . They will be divided amongst the attendings, APPs, and fellows.
Do fellows get weekends off?
Yes. On average, fellows will work one weekend a month.
How many months are fellows on service?
Do fellows get vacation?
Yes. All fellows get 4 weeks of vacation.
Can fellows moonlight?
Is a car required for fellowship?
While not strictly required, several mandatory rotations such as outpatient home dialysis and hemodialysis are at locations not easily serviced by public transportation. While fellows can take Lyft/Uber to these locations, it would be much more convenient to have a car.

Philadelphia is a major tourist destination and has recently been declared the most walkable city in the United States. Many of our attendings and fellows call Philadelphia home. It has all of the major sports leagues, boasts an amazing array of food options, a myriad of music venues, a storied history, amazing architecture, as well as beautiful outdoor spaces.
Via Amtrak and I-95, the entire eastern corridor from Boston to Washington DC is easy to access. Philadelphia International airport has many direct flights to places such as Doha and London that provide easy access to destinations across the globe.
Many physicians and learners also call South Jersey home. This area provides easy access to the beautiful New Jersey Shores, including places such as Cape May and Atlantic city. For those with families, many of the state's best high schools are in South Jersey close to Cooper University Hospital. The PATCO transportation systems also makes it easy for those looking for a suburban living location to access the amenities of Philadelphia.
Camden itself has many attractions such as the Camden Aquarium, BB&T Pavillion which is a major concert venue, as well as a growing number of apartments and restaurants. The city has devoted money to renovation of its major transportation hub near the hospital, and Cooper itself has invested in major developments in the city.
Many, if not the majority of the people that work and learn at Cooper University hospital are from the surrounding area and have decided to settle down here, and we're sure you'll find the area as exciting as we do.
